The Guesthouse              The Pousada do Baluarte is a snug little house built in the 60's in the peaceful neighbourhood of Santo Antônio Além do Carmo in the historical centre of Salvador.  With just a few simply decorated yet charming rooms, the Baluarte offers personal service in a very family environment. Evening meals served up with good conversation on hot summer nights are a speciality and a sumptuous breakfast of tropical fruit, juices, cakes and fresh bread is spread out on the airy varanda by your hostess Zelina,who together with her French husband, Jean-Paul, are the owners. The guesthouse is located in the street of the same name only ten minutes on foot from the Pelourinho, the restored historical centre of the city which is a UNESCO world heritage site, thirty minutes by car from Salvador's international airport and twenty from the bus station. In front is the 16th century Forte de Santo Antônio, where today the meetings of the angola capoeira group led by master João Pequeno, the successor to Pastinha and Moraes, are held.
