Santo Antônio além do Carmo:  
The NeighbourhoodOf the buildings which retain much of their original appearance in the streets leading to the Largo de Santo Antônio, the 18th century Igreja do Boqueirão deserves a special mention. Continue along the rua Direita de Santo Antônio to the largo de Santo Antônio, from where there is a splendid panoramic view of the bay. Here you can also see the 17th century Forte de Santo Antônio Além do Carmo, which played an important part during the Dutch attempt to retake the city in 1638 and has also served as a prison. Make your way back along the same street past the monument known as the Oratório da Cruz do Pascoal, the work of one fervent believer, to the Convento do Carmo then take the Rua do Passo, where you will find the Igreja do Santíssimo Sacramento do Passo built in 1737. The film O Pagador de Promessas, which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, was shot on the steps in front of the church.
